Kids Love to Run

We had some outstanding young runners compete this year. We would like to especially recognize the Durham Striders, who won the USATF Youth overall team competition, as well as all the young competitors who bested NC-USATF state records:

  • Rebekah Hartzell, 8:17, 1-7 girl’s age group
  • Victoria Swepson, 6:13.9, 8-9 girl’s age group
  • Lauren Turner, 5:33.7, 12-13 age group; Lauren was also the sixth overall female finisher
  • Byrum Brown, 6:15.0, 1-7 boy’s age group
  • Evan Milledge, 7:08.3, 1-7 boy’s age group
  • Connor House, 5:53.4, 8-9 boy’s age group

Can a 7 year old run the full mile (not the 400M)?

    • Michael says:

Drew, it seems so, yes. The “general information” section says ” All children who enter the Recreational Mile or either of the Kids’ Races will receive a commemorative cotton t-shirt as well as a medal.” So it appears that they can race in the Recreational one. That’s the one I’m signing my 6-year-old up for and I imagine we’ll be taking it pretty slow near the back.

yes, Drew. They definitely can. Sorry for the delay in responding!
